Indian Hills Academic Decathlon Team Earned 2nd placeThe results are in: the Indian Hills Academic Decathlon team earned 2nd place at the 2018 State Competition, and will be advancing to compete in Division IV at the National Competition in Frisco, Texas next month! The competitors at States were Nigel DaSilva, Harrison Chen, Tara Haymon, Sorab Taneja, Morgan Ford, Megan Swenson, Jon Forsyth, Andrew Fox, Leo Han, Emily Brackenbury, Natalie Ambrose, Lydia Park, Shivani Patel, Victoria Boyce, Kathlyn Costa, Jasmine Ho, and John DeLillo. 

The following students competed as our starters and earned the following awards:
  • Nigel DaSilva was our team's MVP and the highest scoring competitor in the state in the Scholastic Division. He earned a gold medal in music, a silver medal in math, bronze medals in social science, art, and essay, and honorable mentions in science and language/literature. Nigel also earned a perfect score in Super Quiz. 
  • Harrison Chen earned a gold medal in interview and a silver medal in speech.
  • Tara Haymon earned honorable mentions in science and language/literature.
  • Sorab Taneja earned a silver medal in speech and honorable mentions in math and science.
  • Morgan Ford earned a silver medal in interview and honorable mentions in language/literature, essay, and speech. 
  • Megan Swenson earned bronze medals in math and speech, and honorable mentions in music and essay.
  • Jon Forsyth earned gold medals in language/literature and interview, a silver medal in economics, bronze medals in science, social science, essay, and speech, and an honorable mention in art. Jon was also the highest scoring competitor in the state in the Varsity Division. 
  • Andrew Fox earned a gold medal in essay, a bronze medal in art, and an honorable mention in language/literature. Andrew was also the third highest scoring competitor in the state in the Varsity Division.
  • Leo Han earned a silver medal in social science, bronze medals in science and essay, and honorable mentions in economics and music. 
The following students competed as alternates and also earned the following awards:
  • Emily Brackenbury earned a gold medal in language/literature.
  • Lydia Park earned a silver medal in art.
  • Victoria Boyce earned a bronze medal in science.
  • Kathy Costa earned a gold medal in science. 
  • John DeLillo earned silver medals in math and science.
The team also took second place in the Super Quiz Relay.
