Indian Hills Academic Decathlon Team #1 in the Region!

Please congratulate the members of the Indian Hills Academic Decathlon team-- they placed 1st at the Regional Competition and are moving on to States! The members are (pictured from left to right) Megan Swenson, Leo Han, Andrew Ruggiero, Tara Haymon (team captain), Sorab Taneja, Harrison Chen, Aly McCormick, Grace Romitelli, Lydia Park, Eva Sakellakis, Ashley Lubas, Joseph Park, Ariel Tkach, Natalie Ambrose, and Sofia Wuensch. Not pictured are Victoria Boyce and Daniel Apaza. 
  • Tara Haymon, the team's MVP, earned gold medals in essay, science, social science, art, and language/literature, and an honorable mention in economics. Tara was also the highest scoring competitor in the entire region in the Scholastic Division. 
  • Harrison Chen earned gold medals in economics, interview, and speech (he was just 5 points shy of a perfect score). He also earned a silver medal in science and honorable mentions in art and language/literature.
  • Sorab Taneja earned a silver medal in speech, bronze medals in essay and math, and honorable mentions in economics, science, and interview.
  • Lydia Park earned gold medals in social science, art, and language literature, silver medals in economics and science, and an honorable mention in essay. She was the second highest scoring competitor in the entire region in the Honors Division. 
  • Megan Swenson earned a gold medal in music, silver medals in math, economics, and science, bronze medals in speech and interview, and an honorable mention in essay. Megan was also the second highest scoring competitor in the entire region in the Scholastic Division.
  • Grace Romitelli earned a gold medal in music, a bronze medal in language/literature, and honorable mentions in social science and art. 
  • Leo Han earned gold medals in math, science, social science, and art, a silver medal in essay, and honorable mentions in economics and language/literature. Leo was also the highest scoring competitor in the entire region in the Varsity Division. 
  • Dan Apaza earned gold medals in essay, economics, and interview, and silver medals in art, music, and language/literature. Dan was also the second highest scoring competitor in the entire region in the Varsity Division.
  • Andrew Ruggiero earned gold medals in speech and interview, and an honorable mention in science.
  • Victoria Boyce, as an alternate, earned gold medals in economics, art, and music, and a silver medal in language/literature.
  • Aly McCormick, as an alternate, earned a silver medal in music and a bronze medal in social science. 
The team also took second place in the Super Quiz Relay, in which the starting team directly faced off against the other schools in the region concerning this year’s topic, the Sixties. Special thanks to Kim Marino, Gale Fanale, Christine Kelly, Sarah Epstein, Angela Funk, and Ethan Crump for volunteering at the Regionals Competition!

The state finals will take place at Ramapo High School on Saturday, March 2. We hope to see you there!
